Version 2.0 - March 2010

The Japanese Buldings Set is part of the Japan Set which consists of the following GRF files, available from the Japan Set homepage:

Installation and settings for TTD Patch

You will TTDPatch version 2.6 alpha 0 r1554 or later. For general information on how to use GRF files in TTDPatch, read the TTD Patch manual. The Japanese Buldings Set is available in a DOS version ("jpbuild2d.grf") and a Windows version ("jpbuild2w.grf"). Simply copy the grf file into the "newgrf" folder inside your TTD main folder and add the entry "newgrf/jpbuild2[d/w].grf" (with the "d" or "w" depending on whether you are using the DOS or Windows version of TTD) to your "newgrf[w].cfg" file.

Installation and settings for Open TTD

For general information on how to use GRF files in OpenTTD, read the OpenTTD manual. If you have downloaded the Japanese Buldings Set from the Japan Set homepage, simply copy the grf file into the "data" folder inside your OpenTTD folder. Alternatively, you can use OpenTTD's online content service, as described here. To use the Japanese Buldings Set in a new game, you only have to add it under NewGRF Settings on the title screen.

If you have an older version of the Japanese Buldings Set installed, removing the old file and adding the new one will make all your old savegames use the new version. (OpenTTD will display a warning upon opening such savegames though).

GRF parameters

Certain buildings will only appear in large or very large towns. The first parameter controls what is considered "large" or "very large".

If no value is given, the default is used. In TTDPatch, change the above entry in "newgrf[w].cfg" to "newgrf/jpsignals[d/w].grf x", where x is the value you want. In OpenTTD, select the Japanese Signals GRF in the NewGRF settings window, click "Set parameters" and enter x. (General information on how to use GRF parameters: in TTDPatch; in OpenTTD).

Important Note: For technical reasons, this setting is ignored during the generation of towns in the beginning of a game or in the scenario editor. In other words, buildings may appear in smaller towns when you start a new game, but new buildings built later on will follow the above rules.

Note: Whether a town is considered large or very large is only a matter of size and is independent of whether the town is a "city" in the definition of OpenTTD or has the largertowneffect enabled in TTDPatch. However, a city will usually reach the threshold much more quickly. Note also that a few historic buildings will only appear in cities.

Compatibility with other GRF files

The Japanese Buldings Set is designed to be used together with the other GRF files in the Japan Set listed above. However, it should be compatible with any other GRF file.

Known bugs

The fire engines in front of the fire station are sometimes not displayed correctly. Please report any other bugs in the release thread.
